Birthdays deserve better than a reservation

A private chef birthday dinner turns the house you’re in into the best restaurant in the county for one night — a menu written for the guest of honor, courses paced to the party rather than to a table turn, and a kitchen that cleans itself. Because we do.

Nobody watches the clock. Nobody drives. The birthday person doesn’t cook, doesn’t host, and doesn’t wash a single dish.

The menu is the actual gift

This is the part people underestimate. We start by asking what the guest of honor genuinely loves to eat — not what’s impressive, what they love — and build the night around it.

That might mean a childhood dish cooked properly for the first time. The thing they ate on a trip twenty years ago and still talk about. A course that’s a private joke to four people at the table and a nice plate of fish to everyone else. A menu that could only have been written for one person is a better present than almost anything you could wrap, and it costs nothing extra to do.

We’ll also put a menu card at every place setting with their name on it. People keep them.

Milestone birthdays

The big ones — a 50th, a 70th, an 80th — often bring family in from a long way for several days, and the dinner is the reason everyone travelled. Those are among our favorite bookings, and they’re worth planning as more than one meal: a relaxed arrival dinner, the celebration itself, and a slow brunch before people scatter.

Our sample proposals include an 80th birthday for nineteen guests, with the full menus and what it came to. It’s the clearest picture of how one of these gets built.

How the evening runs

• We arrive two to three hours ahead and work quietly. You don’t need to entertain us.
• Something to graze on while people arrive and the first drinks get poured.
• Courses paced to the room — if the table’s deep in conversation, the next course waits.
• Dessert brought out candlelit for the guest of honor, timed with whoever’s making the toast.
• We clear, wash and go. The kitchen is cleaner than we found it.

How much does a private birthday dinner cost?

Dinner starts at $175 per person and most tables land between $195 and $245 — see the pricing guide for the full rate card and what’s included.

Can you accommodate kids and picky eaters?

Of course — we cook for the whole table, from adventurous eaters to the mac-and-cheese caucus. Tell us the ages and we’ll make sure the younger end eats early and eats happily, so the adults get an unhurried dinner afterwards.

Do you do surprise dinners?

Happily, and we’re good at it. We’ll arrive quietly, stay out of sight, and time the reveal to whenever you want it. Give us a phone number for someone who isn’t the surprise, so we’re not texting the guest of honor about their own party.

What about the cake?

We’ll make dessert, and it can absolutely be a birthday cake — brought out candlelit. If you’d rather bring one from a bakery, that’s completely fine; just tell us and we’ll build the dessert course around it instead of competing with it.

How small can a birthday dinner be?

Two is a perfectly normal booking. Some of the best birthday dinners we cook are for four people who’ve known each other thirty years.
