What it costs — and why this page exists
A wedding here’s $500. Five hundred dollars, for a three-day rental of the entire facility — hall, stage and kitchen — if you live outside the area. $350 if you’re a coastal resident. There’s a $150 refundable security and cleaning deposit, and proof of insurance is required.
We’ve checked this against every other venue on the coast and nothing is close. That’s the entire case for Elk: the money you don’t spend on a room is money that goes into food, wine and flowers, and a $500 hall with a working kitchen buys a genuinely lovely wedding.

Kitchen reality
There’s a full kitchen and it comes with the Entire Facility rental — it isn’t an extra, and it isn’t somebody else’s working kitchen you’re borrowing around their service. That combination, a real kitchen you actually have the run of, is rarer on this coast than it should be.
It’s a community hall kitchen rather than a restaurant line, so it won’t have a restaurant’s specialized equipment. For the cooking most weddings actually need, that has never been the limitation people expect.
Confirm the outside-catering position directly. Nothing in the published rental agreement restricts it, and the kitchen is rented to you as part of the facility — but it’s a small community organization and worth a courteous phone call rather than an assumption.
What we’d cook there
Elk weddings tend to be smaller and warmer than Mendocino ones, and the food should follow. Family-style down long tables. One very good fish course, because the ocean is three hundred yards away. Local lamb or pork cooked slowly through the afternoon. Bread, butter, and enough of everything.
What we’d not. Anything that treats the room as a blank slate to be transformed. It’s a village hall in a village of two hundred people, and the weddings that work here lean into that instead of fighting it.
What to confirm before you book
- Outside caterers and kitchen use — ask directly.
- Guest capacity, which isn’t published.
- What the kitchen actually contains, and whether there’s refrigeration you can use.
- The insurance certificate they need.
- Any noise or end-time limits — it’s the middle of a small village.
- Whether the outdoor area is included.
While you’re in Elk
