Caspar, CA · roughly ten minutes from both Mendocino village and Fort Bragg — which makes it the easiest venue on this coast for guests split between the two.
A renovated schoolhouse run by the community, with two dining rooms, a solarium and a dance floor. It’s unglamorous in photographs and excellent in person, and for anyone who cares about the food it’s arguably the best room on the Mendocino coast.

Kitchen reality
This is the reason to book Caspar. The hall has a genuine commercial kitchen, and the Center doesn’t run any catering of its own — it keeps a referral list of outside caterers instead. You bring whoever you want, and they arrive to a real kitchen rather than a folding table behind a hedge.
Practically, that means a kitchen that can plate a proper multi-course dinner for a hundred people without compromise: real cooking surfaces, real refrigeration, real space to work. Professionals using it need food-handler certification, which is the normal bar and tells you the Center expects working caterers in there.
For a couple, the math is worth spelling out: because the venue cost is modest and the kitchen is capable, Caspar lets you put money into food instead of into infrastructure.
What it costs
- Under 100 guests: $2,500 for the three-day package, plus a $350 refundable deposit.
- 100 to 200 guests: $3,000, plus a $450 refundable deposit.
- Additional time $50 per hour.
- Alcohol requires a temporary permit from California ABC.
- Liability insurance is required in most cases.
The one hard constraint: 10pm
There’s a 10pm noise curfew — doors close and music comes down. It’s a residential community, and the rule is real.
Plan the evening backwards from it. Dinner earlier than you think, speeches tight, dancing starting before you feel ready. Handled well nobody notices; handled badly you lose the end of your own party. It’s also, quietly, the reason Caspar weddings tend to have a proper late-afternoon golden hour rather than everything happening in the dark.
What we’d cook there
Anything. That’s the point of a real kitchen. Seated multi-course dinners at scale, family-style down long tables, a raw bar with what came off the boats at Noyo that morning, hot food that arrives hot for two hundred people. It’s the venue where an ambitious menu is a reasonable idea rather than a gamble.
What we’d not. A menu that needs to be served at 10:30pm. Anything built around a long outdoor fire service that runs past curfew.

- Whether your date is available — Saturdays go early.
- What insurance certificate they need, and from whom.
- Your ABC permit timeline if you’re serving alcohol.
- Kitchen access times on the Friday, for setup.
