Yoga mats set out in the open air

From savasana straight to a beautiful table

Mendocino’s coast and redwoods make it a natural home for yoga retreats, and the food should carry the same intention as the practice. We cook sattvic-leaning, plant-forward, seasonal menus for yoga retreats across the county — quietly, while your students flow.

Meals built around the practice, not the clock

Yoga retreats have a food problem nobody warns new teachers about: students arrive to morning practice fasted, and finish it ravenous. If breakfast isn’t ready within about fifteen minutes of savasana, you lose the room — people wander off, energy drops, and the second session starts flat.

So send us your daily schedule — morning practice, workshops, evening circles — and we’ll map the food to it rather than to a standard service time:

  • Before practice — something very light for those who need it, plus tea. Nothing that sits heavily through a twist.
  • Straight after — the real breakfast, ready and waiting as people roll up their mats.
  • Midday — substantial but not sedating. An afternoon session after a heavy lunch is a hard sell.
  • Between sessions — herbal teas and light bites, out and available without anyone having to ask.
  • Evening — the closing meal of the day, eaten together at one long table.

Sattvic-leaning, and honest about it

If your retreat follows sattvic principles, we’ll cook to them — fresh, seasonal, gently spiced, easy to digest, light on onion and garlic, nothing fried into submission. If it doesn’t, we won’t impose them.

What we won’t do is treat plant-based as a limitation. Chef Chantelle was the founding chef of a plant-based kitchen, and the food that comes out of that background is abundant and colorful rather than apologetic. A fully vegetarian or vegan retreat here doesn’t get the reduced version of the menu — it gets the menu.

Quiet service, silent-friendly

Plenty of retreats hold silent mornings, or eat the first meal in silence entirely. That’s easy to accommodate and much easier if we know in advance — we’ll set everything out, keep the kitchen quiet, and stay out of the room until we’re wanted.

Where a retreat is more social, we’ll do the opposite and talk people through what they’re eating: which farm the greens came from, what’s in season on this stretch of coast this week. For a group already paying attention to what they put in their bodies, that lands well.

Good to know

Can you cook fully vegetarian or vegan for the whole retreat?

Yes, happily — plant-based cooking is core to how we cook, not an accommodation. Whole-retreat vegetarian and vegan programs are some of our favorite work.

Do you work with teachers and retreat leaders on budget?

Yes. Tell us your per-student budget and we’ll shape the menu to it and be straight about what’s possible at that number rather than quietly cutting quality. Retreat programs are quoted per person per day (pricing guide).

Which venues do you serve?

Retreat centers, rentals, ranches, inns and community spaces across Mendocino County. If you’re still choosing, our venue guides say plainly which places have a kitchen worth cooking in — the single biggest factor in how good your retreat’s food can be.

It’s a teacher training — can you cook for two weeks?

Yes, and longer programs are where this gets interesting. Over two weeks the menu can genuinely follow the season, and we can build in the slow things — ferments, sourdough, stocks — that a weekend never allows.

Can students help in the kitchen?

If you’d like that as part of the program, yes — a hands-on session where the group cooks one meal together works beautifully on a retreat and is often the afternoon people remember. Just flag it early so we can build it into the schedule.
